Neuro-Developmental Treatment is a holistic/interdisciplinary clinical practice model informed by current/evolving research that emphasizes individualized therapeutic handling based on movement analysis for habituation and rehabilitation of individuals with neurological pathophysiology.
NDT focuses on observing to assess a child impairments, determine with constant reevaluation of intervention through handling techniques with hands on guiding to facilitate more appropriate movement patterns, neuromotor control, and postural recruitment throughout the body. We focus on postures and movements that impact functions and provide a dynamic approach to address alignment, positioning, primary and secondary impairments and assist with relearning postural holding and movement within function.

Children that may benefit from NDT have diagnoses that would include, but not limited to:
– All types of Cerebral Palsy
– Individuals with pathophysiology of the central nervous system
– Insults at and around birth (stroke, seizures, surgeries)
– Hydrocephaly
– Genetic syndromes
– Down’s Syndrome
– Hypotonia/ Hypertonia
– Preterm birth
– Abnormal movement development/Neuromotor Problems -
Benefits of NDT
– Facilitate to allow postures or movements more easily achieved and more frequently integrated into daily activities
– Inhibit atypical postures and movements to prevent secondary impairments and more inefficient movement patterns
– Using key points of control for precise, purposeful placement of therapist hands to indirectly affect where the movement and control should come from appropriately
– Targets multi and single systems that are affected and need to be addressed, focus on function/ activity and participation
